How to Cure Nail Fungus

You must keep your nails clean and dry always and allow them to breath fresh air. Nail fungus naturally occurs on toenails. Do not tie your shoes to tightly as this can lead to a perfect breeding ground for the fungus by not getting proper ventilation. If you wear shoes for a very long time, this can cause your feet to perspire and build fungus.

tea tree oil toenail fungusIf you borrow some one’s nail cutter and other tools, this might also cause you to transfer the fungus, because if the user has a fungus infection it might get to you. Another reason may be trauma to the nail. If one of your nails get injured it allows the bacteria to get in. People with low immune system have a greater chance of getting this disease as well. Once it occurs in one toenail it spreads to other nails on the same foot.

There are mild and aggressive kinds of medications for treatments. It can be treated in the traditional way, which is self treated, or it can be doctor prescribed. Some medicines can cause side effects especially for those people who are suffering from liver diseases. Some medicines can also cause allergies because of its high toxic contents.

People who have depressed immune systems like those people with problems in their circulatory system, diabetic people, elderly people, and those who have HIV. Medication for nail fungus is a long-term treatment. It takes almost three months to be treated properly.

During the treatment period, while your nails grow, the medicine applied prevents the fungi from growing, resulting in the healthy nail growth. Curing nail fungus has its success rate at 60 to 80 percent and it is not assured that it will not occur again. In fact, it has a 15 percent chance to reoccur. Nail fungus is a long lasting kind of infection. That is why after treating it, the doctors still recommend their patients to continue the use of anti-fungal creams. This is to prevent another build up of fungus infection.

The best way to keep a healthy nail is to keep good hygiene at all times. To help prevent fungus infection we must follow some certain methods.

  • The first is, wear open footwear as much as possible.
  • Second, change socks immediately if it becomes damp or even a better solution would be to wear absorbent socks.
  • Third, do not wear high top boots if they are not needed.
  • Fourth, treat fungus as early as you can to stop its spreading.

Laser Toenail Fungus Treatment – Is it Worth?

Toenail fungus a very ugly fungi that affects almost 25 million persons around America. The toenail fungus causes the toenail to be very hard and thick and turn yellow. If you’ve a fungus infection and you are thinking about different treatments, there are a few things to consider.

There’s no flawless fix for toenail fungus. There are some oral medicines for toenail infection, like Lamisil, and these are said to treat the infection about 10 percent of the time. A new recent treatment for this fungus is the use of lasers. So far there were a few studies that show very promising conclusions. These lasers work from killing the fungus but also leaving the nail and other foot tissues un-damaged. Many big companies are looking to get in on the action.

fungal toe nailHow exactly do the lasers work? These lasers are aimed at the fungus in the toenail that basically vaporizes it while leaving your skin unharmed.

Does it work? Around first clinic studies earlier this year, almost 90 percent of the patients were able to grow out a regular appearing nail after just one laser treatment. After that treatment, the toenail should grow usually in one year if there’s a healthy bed to do so. The success rate here is similar to the oral fungal pill.

Is the laser treatment Agonizing? Is it Safe? The laser has absolutely no affect on regular and healthy skin tissue, there’s no pain. The studies taken so far show absolutely no side effects from taking the laser treatment to get rid of the fungus.

How long will it take? Only ten minutes are needed for treatment, per toe.

So… how safe is it? There are absolutely no health or age restrictions. In recent clinical studies there were no bad reactions, harm, ailments or side effects. As you might know, the ability to use the medication accessible today for treatment carries with it the possibility of kidney failure, lasers don’t.

Will my insurance cover it? The laser treatment of for toenail fungus isn’t covered by most insurance companies or plans as it’s thought of as aesthetic. The cost can be anywhere from $200 to $500.

It’s credited to your operation fee if you want to go forward with treatment. The treatment is usually a fee of $50. If your infection is resistant or if it is not responding to regular toenail growth, the nails might need the next laser treatment therapy. This sometimes happens when all of your toenails are extremely infected. You may need additional treatments in this case.

If the toenail lasers, which did recently finish small clinical trials really work, they will show a recent way to cure toenail infections by killing the fungi while keeping the toe whole and healthy.

Currently, there’s no sure fix. The fungus are so smart that popular fungus pills, which move the risk of liver cause injury to, are totally successful under 50 percent of the time. And medications that you physically put on your toes work less than 10 percent of the time.

Drug companies like Schering-Plough are working on recent pills and ointments and lotions to fight the toenail fungus.

How to Treat Toe Nail Fungus

If you’re searching for a good toe nail fungus treatment, it isn’t going to be very easy. You’ll find a number of different remedies out there and while some of them are good, you’ll find that others are not so good and some are quite risky.

remedy nail fungusI had the problem starting in my early 20s (and I’m 57 now), so it’s been around a long time. Eventually I got some good information and got it sorted out. Although I wasn’t afraid to show my feet in public, I wasn’t proud of how they looked either!

Just because my solution worked for me, it might not be useful for you, so you’re going to need to do some research for yourself. Make sure you check out these options:

  • Solutions your doctor may prescribe
  • "Natural" solutions you find in your heighborhood chemist shop.
  • Products you’ve seen advertised in the trashy magazines. Yes, some could be very effective!
  • Home remedies of various kinds

Treating toe nail fungus can be a lengthy process – maybe up to a year or more. Make sure you keep up with whatever solution you’re using, in case the fungus has developed a resistance.

So, what can you do?

  • Visit your doctor, who may prescribe some kind of draconian drug-based treatment. The problem is, they can be very effective, but can also have serious side effects. These drugs can also be very expensive.
  • drop into your local chemist to talk about "natural" remedies. Pharmacists are well trained and usually know their stuff. Don’t forget that toe nail fungus is tough to get on top of, and so what they suggest may not work effectively. Anf don’t forget either that "natural" isn’t automatically the same as "safe". Check everything thoroughly.
  • Home remedies. There are probably thousands, so it’s worth some serious hunting here. You can download some excellent e-books from the internet, read articles (again on the web), and generally keep aware of what’s around.
  • As a last resort, you may consider surgery, but remember, any surgery has potential risk.

So, information is what you need to make some informed decisions. Get started right away and do some hunting around. The more you put it off, the longer it’s gonna take!
